Dar es Salaam, 26th June 2012 … Tanzania’s leading telecommunications company, Vodacom has introduced an offer that will see all M-pesa registered customers get free airtime for every M-pesa transaction, whether they are sending or receiving money.
Vodacom Managing Director, Rene Meza announced a TShs 50 airtime bonus to both the sender and the receiver for every M-pesa transaction, adding that customers will be able to use the bonus airtime to make phone calls within the Vodacom network and send sms to any network nationally.
“The more one sends or receives money throughout M-pesa, the more bonus airtime they shall receive,” he said.
Meza said the promotion is aimed at rewarding Vodacom customers for their continued loyalty to the company. “This promotion is exciting to Vodacom as it will encourage more of our customers to use M-pesa and allow them to see how M-pesa can change their lives while enjoying the bonus airtime to make calls and send sms,” he noted, adding that M-pesa remains one of the most important products that Vodacom has introduced into Tanzania.
Since its launch in 2008, M-pesa has played an instrumental role in changing the way money is sent, saved, and used to buy daily needs across the country. So far, Vodacom enables over 3 million M-pesa subscribers in the country, all of which are set to enjoy this bonus airtime promotion.
Over the last four years, the M-pesa mobile money solution has become ingrained in the lives of Vodacom customers. Efforts to drive access to the product have grown steadily, and Vodacom has managed to build an agent network of over 20,000 outlets, effectively covering the country, and bringing access to the product closer to all customers.
“With all great growth achieved by the M-pesa service over the years, we thank our customers and all the shops in the country for they have played a significant role in it. I want to assure them that we shall keep bringing them new services that are rewarding and life changing,” the MD pledged.
He said the company will continue to drive accessibility of its network through infrastructure upgrades and to open more parts of the country that lack network connectivity at the moment. Vodacom will also increase its efforts towards developing innovative products and services that meet the unique needs and lifestyles of the people of Tanzania
